Bekhudi Meaning | बेख़ुदी, بیخودی

Bekhudi or bekhudee (Devanagari:बेख़ुदी,Farsi:بیخودی) is an Urdu-Farsi word which means senselessness, unconsciousness, the state of being intoxicated or inebriated.

Be- is a prefix which means without, and khud means self, so bekhudi basically is a state where one is not oneself really, and hence the meaning.

Bekhudi is a very commonly used word in Bollywood songs and you can hear it in tens, probably hundreds of them. There are a few that have Bekhudi in their title, like the song Bekhudi from Teraa Suroor.

  5. Bekhudi does not mean senselessness in terms of celestial sensory. Bekhudi is a state of absolute presence with the creator which as a consequence makes you a bekhud (senseless) to the exterior (Worldy things). While by definition of bollywood songs the creator is changed with the lover and then intoxications and inebriation could also be used to define Bekhudi. But historically the word was not used in such a way.

  6. In case someone is more interested in the depth of the meaning, I would recommend Allama Iqbal. His whole poetry is surrounded with the concept of Khudi and you would find that his definition of khudi and bekhudi is very different from the one found in Bollywood songs.
