Dastarkhwan/ Dastarkhan Meaning

Dastarkhwan [also called dastarkhan sometimes] is a Persian term which literally means a big, ceremonial dining spread. The word is also used for the table-cloth or a cloth which is used below such a big feasty spread.

The word is used in Urdu as well and can be found in Urdu poetry as well. Lyricist Kausar Munir used this rare-in-Bollywood word recently in Hindi film Daawat-e-Ishq's title song too.

  1. Thanks for informing. I want to improve my Urdu Vocab. Can you suggest any good Urdu to Hindi/English dictionary. I have seen few but they start with Urdu alphabets. Isn't there any Urdu to Hindi dictionary available which are sorted by Hindi alphabets? I will be very grateful to you if you could suggest one.
